SEAI offers two routes to claiming home energy grants. Choosing the right one depends on how many upgrades you’re doing, your appetite for managing the project yourself, and which measures you need.
Individual grants: do it yourself
With individual grants, you:
- Apply to SEAI yourself before works start
- Find and hire your own SEAI-registered contractor
- Submit your grant claim after works are complete
Pros: More control over contractors and timing. Works well for single upgrades like attic insulation or solar panels.
Cons: More admin. You must manage multiple contractors if doing several upgrades. Some measures not available.
One Stop Shop (OSS): fully managed
The OSS scheme uses a single approved provider who co-ordinates everything:
- Home energy assessment (€350 grant included)
- Recommended upgrades and quotes
- All works carried out by registered contractors
- Grant claim submitted on your behalf
Pros: No admin. Access to all measures including OSS-only ones. Single point of contact.
Cons: Less control. You are limited to the OSS provider’s network of contractors.
OSS-only measures
These can only be claimed through the One Stop Shop:

Some grant amounts differ between schemes, notably air-to-air heat pumps:

When should you choose OSS?
Choose the One Stop Shop if:
- You’re doing 3 or more upgrades
- You want floor insulation, rafter insulation, or mechanical ventilation
- You don’t want to manage contractors yourself
- Your home has significant heat loss requiring a comprehensive retrofit
Choose individual grants if:
- You’re doing 1–2 simple upgrades (e.g. attic + cavity wall)
- You already have a trusted contractor
- You need air-to-air heat pump (higher individual grant)
- You want to phase work over multiple years
