Ireland’s SEAI home energy grants programme is one of the most generous in Europe. In 2026, a typical Irish household could claim anywhere from a few hundred euro for attic insulation right up to over €12,000 when combining a heat pump, central heating upgrade, and renewable bonus.
This guide covers every grant available, the amounts by dwelling type, eligibility rules, and how to apply.
Who is eligible for SEAI grants?
SEAI grants are open to homeowners whose home was built before 2011 and is used as a principal private residence. You do not need to own the property outright. Rental properties can also qualify if you are the landlord and the work is done on a home that qualifies.
Key eligibility rules:
- The property must be a residential dwelling (house, apartment, bungalow).
- It must have been built before 2011.
- Works must be carried out by a SEAI-registered contractor.
- You cannot claim a grant for a measure already installed in the home.
The Warmer Homes Scheme is a separate, fully-funded programme for households receiving certain social welfare payments. There are no costs to the homeowner.
Heat pump grants
Air-to-water heat pumps are the most commonly installed renewable heating system in Ireland.
| Grant | House | Apartment |
|---|---|---|
| Air-to-water heat pump (unit) | €6,500 | €4,500 |
| Central heating system | €2,000 | €1,000 |
| Renewable heating bonus | €4,000 | €4,000 |
| Air-to-air heat pump | €7,500 | €7,500 |
| Technical assessment | €200 | €200 |
The renewable heating bonus (€4,000) is available when you switch from an oil, gas, or solid fuel boiler to a heat pump. This brings the maximum combined heat pump grant for a house to €6,500 + €2,000 + €4,000 = €12,500.
Solar PV grants
The solar PV grant scales with system size:
| System size | Grant |
|---|---|
| 1 kWp | €700 |
| 2 kWp | €1,400 |
| 3 kWp | €1,600 |
| 4 kWp+ | €1,800 (maximum) |
Solar water heating (thermal, not PV) carries a separate grant of €1,200.
